GFA BASIC 32

This is a page where I will be talking about GFA BASIC for 32 bit Windows (it works for 64 bits, too).  You can download the latest GFA BASIC 32 at Sjouke Hamstra's excellent GFA BASIC 32 blog download page.  It is thanks to Sjouke that we know GFA BASIC 32 still runs on modern Windows and will continue to do so, which is cool because GFA BASIC 32 first came out back when Windows 95 seemed like a good idea and the company behind it went out of business about the time Windows XP came out.  Updated help files can be found at the GFA Basic Forum (GB32).  Since I'm a belt and suspenders kind of guy, backups of said files can be found at the bottom of this page.  Update:  This turned out to be a good thing, because the download links from the official page and the forum stopped working recently for a while.  Though they are now back, I'm keeping these links active for as long as I can.

By the way, there seems to be no consensus on how to spell GFA BASIC 32 (my preference).  The GFA editor title bar says GFA-BASIC 32.  The program itself is GfaWin32.exe.  The forum has it as GFA Basic (GB32).  The blog calls it GFA-BASIC 32 for Windows in the title but GFA-BASIC for Windows 32-bits in the downloads section and GFABASIC in a book. Wikipedia calls it GFA BASIC for Microsoft Windows.  I, myself, have been using it since it was plain GFA BASIC on the Atari ST and didn't even know that other versions existed, so now I use terms like GFA BASIC Amiga, GFA BASIC DOS, GFA BASIC 16, and GFA BASIC 32 to differentiate between the versions.  Of course, even back in the Atari ST days, I saw it on official documentation as GFA BASIC and GFA-BASIC.

By the by, if you came here looking for a different version of GFA BASIC, I won't be offended if you check out one of these other sites:
GFA BASIC 16 for Windows
GFA BASIC ST for Atari ST

Information about the downloads:
  • gb32.zip - contains the full GFA-BASIC 32 package (for new users mostly) IDE and Compiler: 2.30 Build 1169/2
    OCX Runtime: 2.31 Build 1200.
  • GfaWin23.zip - contains the GfaWin23.Ocx file version 2.31 Build 1200 if you just need to update that.
  • GfaNewHelp.zip - older version of updated help files in English.
  • GermanHelp.zip - even older version of updated help files in German.
  • EnglishHelp.zip - newer version of updated help files in English.
  • GB32HelpFileDownload.zip - latest (Build 8.3, current as of July 2016) English help files and a GLL editor extension that lets you call it from within the GB32 IDE.  If you don't know which version of the help file to download, download this one.
  • GFAWin32.zip - Just the Build 8.3 July 2016 help file, which you can drop into your GFABASIC folder if you already have an earlier version of this help file installed.  Might be able to run this by double-clicking depending on which Windows version you're running.
